Michael O’Kane, Irish Daily Star newspaper’s editor has resigned over Kate Middleton’s topless pictures controversy

Michael O’Kane, Dublin’s Irish Daily Star editor has resigned from his position.

The editor’s resignation follows after daily printed photos of Kate Middleton sunbathing without her top on while on a vacation with Prince William in a privately owned Chateau in the South of France in September.

O’Kane was removed from his position as editor in September after internal investigations into the tabloid’s decisions to reprint the controversial pictures that has offended the British Royals.

Pictures of the Duchess sunbathing topless were first published in the French magazine, Closer and later several European magazine followed suit, which also included the Irish Daily Star. The royals took legal actions against the French gossip magazine, Closer for publishing the pictures.

In a released statement, the tabloid said, “As a result of the publication on 15 September 2012, issues arose with the shareholders of Independent Star Limited.

“Having considered those issues in tandem with Mr O’Kane, it is Mr. O’Kane’s decision to resign as editor of the Irish Daily Star, effective immediately”.
